Preferred vs. Non-Preferred

If you book a Preferred room, you will be located in specific buildings (Bungalows, Buildings 4, 8, or 9, and the swim out rooms of Buildings 6), but what does that mean?

Preferred rooms are the same inside as the non-preferred rooms, so what are you paying extra for? Preferred rooms come with additional services and perks, like liquor bottles in the rooms, snacks, a butler, access to the preferred pool, the preferred bar/lounge, and access to Rosewater Grill (open for breakfast and lunch). The butler is like the concierge provided on the non-preferred side, but the ratio of guests to employees is much lower for preferred guests so you may receive a different level of service and attentiveness.

Room Categories

There are four main room categories – Swim Out, Tropical View, Partial Ocean View or Ocean View – with each having a Preferred or Non-Preferred option. The resort is laid out with several buildings, most having 6 floors and 8 rooms per floor. The first floor is a Swim Out room, which has its own pool shared across all rooms on that building’s floor. Floors 2-3 are typically ‘tropical view’ with 3 or 4 being a ‘partial ocean view’, since the palm trees and some buildings may make it difficult to see the ocean. The top 2 floors are Ocean View, and the views are spectacular. That’s the only difference between room categories – the floor they’re on.

We have enjoyed Preferred Ocean View (building 9) and both Preferred and Non-Preferred Swim Out rooms (buildings 3 and 9). Because our UVC Membership includes preferred benefits regardless of the room we book, we don’t have a preference between the two. But, I will say, our butler (Miguel) has always been exceptional, going above and beyond for any needs we had and always staying in contact through iMessage. Access to the Preferred Pool and Rosewater, and the additional level of service (whether perceived or placebo) is worth it for us. The lounge chairs at the beach and pool also have a little extra padding, which makes a difference if you spend a bit of time sunbathing.
